GPT-6 Astra rolls into ChatGPT, Codex, API, Azure, Bedrock

What happened

What happened: OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra as its broadly deployed frontier model for ChatGPT (Plus→Enterprise rollout), Codex, the API, Azure, and Amazon Bedrock—with Astra Pro on higher plans and Enterprise off-by-default until admins enable. Tool impact: ChatGPT and Codex jump a generation together; Cursor/Claude Code buyers feel pressure on “default smart model” gravity even if they keep their IDE.

Switch or not?

If you already pay OpenAI, enable Astra where available and retest your hardest ChatGPT/Codex loops before buying another seat. Don’t rip Claude Code/Cursor solely because Astra launched—measure finish quality on your tickets.

Money / risk

Usage included in allowances plus purchasable credits—agent/computer-use speedups can burn pools faster. Enterprise: leave admin gate off until you have a budget + eval harness.
