What happened: GitHub added Gemini 3.8 Flash across Copilot Pro/Pro+/Max/Business/Enterprise surfaces (VS Code, JetBrains, CLI, cloud agent, etc.), billed at introductory provider pricing under usage-based credits through Dec 31, 2026 (verify). Tool impact: Copilot’s post–AI-Credits world gets a speed/recovery-oriented Google model option—another reason model routing inside Copilot matters as much as “which IDE.”

Switch or not?
Enable Flash for terminal-heavy / retry-prone tasks if you’re already on Copilot credits—don’t switch IDEs for a model picker row. Admins: check model policy so Business/Enterprise don’t auto-enable surprise spend.
Money / risk
Introductory pricing ends; Flash retries can still chew AI Credits. Pair with user-level budgets from the June billing change.
