Astra hits Critical cyber capability — gated Daybreak SKUs still matter

What happened

What happened: OpenAI’s safety overview says GPT-6 Astra is the first broadly deployed model to reach Critical cybersecurity capability under its Preparedness Framework, with stronger alignment/refusal behavior—and separately notes higher cyber-focused SKUs remaining in constrained programs (Daybreak-style). Tool impact: capability headlines will spike; availability for everyday coding agents is not the same as gated cyber SKUs.

Switch or not?

No panic-switch for normal app development. Treat Critical cyber labeling as a policy/eval event for security teams—not a reason to abandon Claude/Cursor stacks tomorrow.

Money / risk

Compliance and misuse review costs dominate sticker price. Enterprises should update acceptable-use + logging before enabling Astra-wide computer use.
